Abstract

Language:

This study investigates the thermodynamic data related to bieberite-moorhouseite equilibria at a pressure of 0.1 MPa, focusing on the significance of secondary metal-sulfate salts in hydrochemical cycles at mining sites. The objective is to acquire and evaluate comprehensive thermodynamic data that can aid in understanding the behavior of these salts in both active and abandoned mine environments. The methodology employed involved systematic experimental techniques to derive the necessary thermodynamic properties of the studied salts, contributing to an enhanced understanding of their dynamics. Results indicate the presence of critical thermodynamic variables, confirming the role of sulfate salts in geochemical processes associated with metal cycling, which are central to the environmental impact assessments of mining activities. The findings are anticipated to inform future research in mineralogy and environmental science, particularly concerning the implications of sulfate salt behavior in the natural world.
