Induction motors are considered as the workhorses of the industries due to their robustness, low cost, and low maintenance. However, they suffer from an inherently low power factor, which presents challenges in industrial applications. This paper aims to review various techniques that have been proposed to improve the power factor of induction motor drives. The methodology includes an in-depth analysis of different methods, focusing particularly on the Hysteresis Band Current Control (HBCC) technique, which compares the phase of the stator current for each phase with a reference current that is in-phase with the supply voltage. Through this discussion, several innovative approaches are synthesized that have been explored by researchers to enhance the power factor. Results indicate that employing HBCC can significantly improve the input power factor of induction motor drives. Overall, the findings highlight the importance of selecting appropriate methods for enhancing the efficiency of induction motors in industrial scenarios.
