Abstract

Language:

This presentation discusses the complexities and considerations involved in uranium mining and processing. The objective is to provide insights to stakeholders in the industry about the steps following the identification of a uranium deposit. The methodology incorporates a detailed analysis of various mining techniques, including open pit, underground, and in-situ recovery, each evaluated for its operational feasibility and cost-effectiveness. Results indicate that open pit mining is often preferred due to its low unit cost and predictable ore grade, making it a viable option for projects like Rössing and Ranger. Additionally, the presentation highlights the interconnectedness of mining with other phases of the fuel cycle, including refining, conversion, and fuel fabrication, providing a comprehensive understanding of uranium's journey from extraction to power generation. The findings aim to assist industry professionals in making informed decisions about uranium deposits and contribute to efficient operational strategies in mines.
