The area concerned with this study is the hydroelectric power site of Kakobola and its surroundings. The Kakobola dam is not yet operational even though the construction work is already completed. Previous studies show that those related to the sedimentological aspects are not carried out yet. The main objective of this article is to present a granulometric and morphological characterization of the study zone. The interest is to establish a paleoenvironmental reconstruction of the sediments in order to deduce their close or remote origin from it, and better understand the occurrence of sand under the soft sandstones and its use in concrete for the site infrastructures. The methodology is laboratory based grain size and morphological analyses. Data processing was carried using granulometric indices fused with microscopic and diagrams of So-Sk, K-Sk, So-Average of Friedman and Mandeleuivm-Sk of Moiola and Weiser analyses. The results show that the sedimentological facies observed on the surface are in majority made up of silty sand particles. The diagram of Friedman informs that the sediments are brought by running waters, whereas that of Moiola and Weiser reveals that the sediments are of continental origin. The morphoscopic analysis enabled the appreciation of the allochthonous character of the sediments. The latter are mainly rounded to sub-rounded testifying a rather considerable transport of the grains by water. The mode of displacement is rolling, showing a rather strong hydrodynamic energy.
