The AC line input voltage is frequently rectified by single-phase diode rectifiers and filtered using sizable electrolytic capacitors, which draw current in brief pulses, leading to harmonics that distort the line current and cause high losses. This article presents a simple single-stage AC-DC converter designed to achieve a high power factor and low total harmonic distortion. Utilizing PI hysteresis current control, this method reduces total harmonic distortion and enhances power factor at full load. Furthermore, the PI controller is integrated into the outer voltage loop to regulate output voltage, with gain levels determined through Ziegler-Nichol's tuning method. Simulation results for the AC-DC converter at a constant switching frequency demonstrate the proposed control method's advantages, revealing its efficiency in achieving low total harmonic distortion and high power factor when compared to uncontrolled cases. Stability during both dynamic and steady-state responses further confirms the accuracy and effectiveness of the proposed power factor correction converter.
