CaO-SiO2-FeOx-P2O5-MgO bearing slags are typically used in the basic oxygen steelmaking (BOS) process. This study investigates the partition ratio of phosphorus between slag and steel, which is crucial for determining the phosphorus content achievable in the finished steel. The research examines the influence of various factors, particularly FeO content and basicity, on the phosphorus partition ratio at different temperatures. Results indicate that the partition ratio initially increases with basicity, but stabilizes beyond a basicity level of 2.5 to 2.6. Furthermore, while an increase in FeO content up to 18 to 20 mass pct enhances phosphorus partitioning at a basicity of 2 to 3, higher FeO concentrations lead to a decrease in the partition ratio. The transition point of FeO concentration is found to vary with both basicity and temperature. Notably, at lower basicities, the equilibrium phosphorus partition shows either no change or a slight decreasing trend in response to increased FeO content. This research contributes valuable insights into the phosphorus holding capacity of steelmaking slags, highlighting the need for careful control of slag chemistry in industrial applications.
