Gold has been a highly valued noble metal throughout history for its cultural significance and investment potential. In India, gold is predominantly consumed for ornamental purposes, with the nation relying heavily on imports to meet its substantial demand. The current resources of gold ore in India are estimated to be around 390.29 million tonnes, with only 19.25 million tonnes classified as reserves. Exploration efforts by various agencies, including GSI and MECL, have been ongoing since 2006-07, targeting multiple states, with Bihar, Karnataka, and Rajasthan identified as key areas for gold deposits. To address the growing gap between gold production and demand, several strategies have been outlined in the XIth Five Year Plan, including plans for new extraction plants and the reopening of abandoned mines. The study emphasizes the need for continued exploration and development of gold resources in India, highlighting identified regions for future mining activities. Coordinated efforts among state and national agencies are essential to enhance production and ensure a stable supply of gold in the upcoming years.
