The electric arc furnace (EAF) has become a crucial technology in steelmaking, significantly influencing energy consumption patterns in the industry. This study aims to explore and present various methods for reducing energy usage in EAF operations, focusing on technological innovations and best practices. A comprehensive review of the existing literature and a meta-analysis of operational data were conducted to identify effective strategies. Key methodologies included the implementation of process optimization techniques, the integration of renewable energy sources, and enhanced material efficiency. The results demonstrated that employing advanced control systems and energy recovery processes can lead to notable reductions in energy consumption. In addition, the use of alternative materials and optimized charging practices was found to further mitigate energy waste. Overall, the findings underscore the potential for substantial energy savings in EAF operations, contributing to the sustainability of the steel industry. This research offers valuable insights for both practitioners and researchers aiming to enhance energy efficiency in metallurgical practices.
