Abstract

Language:

Dc power supplies are extensively used inside most electrical and electronic appliances such as computers, televisions, and audio sets, leading to an increasing demand for power supplies that draw current with low harmonic content and a power factor close to unity. The presence of nonlinear loads often results in low power factor operation of the power system, which impacts efficiency. This paper proposes a bridgeless power factor correction (PFC) boost converter designed to enhance power factor and reduce harmonic content in input line currents compared to traditional boost converter topology. By eliminating the line-voltage bridge rectifier commonly found in conventional boost power factor correction converters, this method effectively reduces conduction losses. The results demonstrate significant improvements in power factor and reductions in total harmonic distortion (THD), showcasing the advantages of the bridgeless topology for applications requiring efficient power management. This innovative approach contributes to developing power supplies compatible with modern electrical and electronic devices while addressing efficiency and harmonic mitigation challenges.
