This paper proposes a novel perspective on quantum mechanics, aiming to address the common discomfort with the measurement problem by challenging the notion of an observer-independent state of a system. Drawing a parallel with historical critiques of observer-independent concepts in physics, such as those found in Einstein's special relativity, the author reformulates the interpretation issue of quantum mechanics. By suggesting that the measurements and properties of a quantum system are defined relative to an observer or a specific frame of reference, Rovelli argues for the abandonment of absolute states in favor of a relational view. This approach aligns with information theory ideas, positing that all systems are fundamentally equivalent and that the theory encompasses only the information systems possess about one another. Importantly, this reformulation seeks to reconcile existing interpretations, such as the Copenhagen interpretation, many-worlds, and others, highlighting how a relational understanding can result in a more coherent and complete quantum mechanics framework. The conclusions emphasize that the experimental evidence supporting quantum mechanics fundamentally necessitates such a relational viewpoint.
