2012enradioactivewastegeologicaldisposalconference

Abstract

Language:

The conference themed around the geological disposal of radioactive waste was held from October 18th to 20th, 2011, at Burleigh Court Conference Centre, Loughborough University, UK. Its primary objective was to showcase and publish research pertinent to the storage and disposal of radioactive waste. Organized by several prestigious institutions, the event facilitated discussions among scientists, engineers, and specialists regarding various scientific and technological challenges in the long-term management of radioactive waste. The organizing committee ensured a rigorous peer-review process for the abstracts submitted prior to the conference, selecting the best for presentation. Papers included in the accompanying volume of Mineralogical Magazine underwent an additional extensive peer-review process. This paper details the thematic organization of the conference and highlights the contributions made towards understanding the state-of-the-art practices and research relevant to geological disposal. Through collaboration and peer review, the conference aimed to enhance knowledge dissemination and foster development in the field of radioactive waste management.
