Construction serves as a fundamental driver for the socio-economic advancement of nations, generating substantial employment opportunities. Despite its importance, small scale construction contractors in India face a myriad of challenges affecting their operational efficacy, including financial constraints, technical deficiencies, and management hurdles. This study aims to identify the predominant issues encountered by these contractors. A comprehensive survey was conducted targeting small scale contractors across India, enabling data collection on various operational obstacles. The Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) software was utilized for the analysis and ranking of the identified factors. The findings reveal that delayed payments from clients, fluctuations in material costs, involvement of owners during the construction phase, inefficiencies in cash flow management, and heightened competition are significant challenges faced by these contractors. Addressing these issues is pivotal for enhancing the performance and sustainability of small scale construction enterprises in India.
