This study addresses the pressing environmental challenges associated with copper smelter and refinery wastes by exploring value-added strategies for their sustainable handling and disposal. The objective is to identify and assess innovative methods that can minimize the environmental footprint while maximizing resource recovery. The methodology includes a comprehensive review of existing literature, case studies, and experimental data on the treatment of copper wastes, focusing on leaching processes, recycling techniques, and innovative uses. Results indicate that effective strategies such as hydrometallurgical processes, bioremediation, and material recycling can significantly reduce waste volume and recover valuable metals like copper, lead, and zinc. Additionally, converting waste into secondary raw materials opens up avenues for sustainable practices in metallurgy and construction industries. The paper concludes that adopting these value-added strategies not only mitigates environmental risks but also enhances the economic viability of the copper industry, contributing to a circular economy. Further research is recommended to optimize these processes and assess their feasibility on an industrial scale.
