Phenyl(N-methylaniline)ketoxime (HL) has been designed and synthesized as a novel leach reagent for copper(II) hydrometallurgy, with a successful yield of 85%. The physical and physicochemical properties of HL were characterized, revealing a melting point of 245–248 °C, low solubility, and a notable absorption maximum in UV-visible spectroscopy. Leaching experiments demonstrated the ability of HL to selectively solubilize copper in alkaline and hypochlorite solutions, forming a stable neutral copper(II) complex (CuL2) within a pH range of 9 to 11. The complex's properties were confirmed via absorption spectra, showing a peak at 610 nm. This novel reagent enabled an increase in copper concentration from 0.82% in ore to approximately 6.0 g/l in the leach solution. Moreover, electrowinning of the leach liquors facilitated copper recovery while allowing the reuse of HL as a spent electrolyte. The proposed extraction process, comprising only leaching and electrowinning stages, signifies a cost-effective and energy-efficient method for copper recovery in hydrometallurgy.
