This study investigates the corrosivity of potential fire suppressants on various metallic alloys used in aircraft, necessitated by the adverse effects of corrosive agents on material integrity. The objective was to assess the corrosion failure modes that could occur during service or after the deployment of fire suppressants, thereby influencing safety and reliability. Methodologically, a series of experiments were conducted to evaluate the corrosive impact of different agents while developing an electrochemical technique for rapid and cost-effective assessment. This method aimed to analyze how variations in composition, temperature, and contaminant levels affect the corrosivity of fire suppressants. Results indicate that corrosion manifests in varied modes including general and pitting corrosion, each with distinct mechanisms and rates influenced by environmental conditions. The findings underscore the importance of selecting non-corrosive fire suppressants to preserve the integrity of aircraft materials, thereby enhancing operational safety.
