This seminar presents an in-depth examination of sustainable solvents and their role in chemical processes, highlighting the importance of integrating green technologies into the early stages of process development to enhance sustainability. The objective is to define and analyze 'green and sustainable solvents' and their applications within the chemical industry, emphasizing the necessity to balance ecological considerations with practical industrial needs. A thorough literature survey is conducted, documenting various types of solvents including switchable solvents, water at elevated temperatures, supercritical fluids, and gas-expanded liquids, alongside case studies that illustrate their industrial relevance. The methodology involves a comprehensive review of existing research and case studies pertaining to the application of sustainable solvents in chemical processes, focusing on their life-cycle assessments and 'greenness' indicators. Results indicate a trend towards the increased adoption of sustainable solvents, led by advancements in green chemistry, which aim to reduce waste and enhance efficiency in industrial operations. The seminar concludes that employing sustainable solvents not only fosters environmental conservation but also aligns with the economic viability demanded by the current chemical industry standards.
