Abstract

Language:

Ammoniacal thiosulfate solutions with cupric ions have proved to be more successful than cyanidation in handling complex ores like carbonaceous and cuprous minerals. This study aimed to compare the efficiency of cyanidation and ammoniacal thiosulfate leaching at 33% solids concentration. Results indicated that cyanidation delivered a gold recovery of 80.6% after 24 hours, while ammoniacal thiosulfate leaching achieved 80.90% recovery in just one hour. Following the leaching process, five gold recovery techniques were evaluated: carbon adsorption, cementation, adsorption on carbon impregnated with metallic copper, ion flotation, and electrolysis. Of these, ion flotation emerged as the most effective technique, achieving a gold recovery of 84%. The ion flotation utilized triethyl methyl ammonium chloride (Aliquat) and FloMin F-121 at a 0.1% concentration. The flotation concentrate underwent electrolysis at 1.5 V for three hours, resulting in an 82% gold recovery in the cathode zone. This research provides insight into efficient gold recovery technologies that can be beneficial in metallurgical applications.
