Abstract

Language:

We have studied zeolitic rocks discovered in Mongolia using electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray fluorescence (XRF), and X-ray diffraction (XRD) methods. SEM, XRF, and XRD measurements were performed in the Max Plank Institute of Stuttgart, Germany. Our samples were collected from various Mongolian deposits: Tsagaan tsav, Tushig uul, Urgun deposit, Bayan Zurkh Black Mountain, and Mandai ovoo. Initially, chemical element analysis using X-ray fluorescence spectroscopy determined the chemical contents of samples from all zeolite deposits, revealing that zeolite from Tushig Mountain, Dornogobi, has the highest potassium content, confirming its identity as potassium clinoptilolite. The main cations present were K, Na, Ca, Mg, Fe, and Ti across all samples. Additionally, the (Si + Al)/O ratio indicates that the Mongolian zeolites possess comparatively favorable qualities. X-ray phase analysis employed a Bruker-Axes D8 X-ray powder diffractometer, allowing us to refine diffraction spectra and confirm that the zeolites identified were predominantly Na and K types of clinoptilolite with monoclinic symmetry (C2/m). The precise crystallochemical formula for clinoptilolites was established as (Na2O, K1.81, Mg0.49, Ca0.46, Fe0.36)(Al62SiO304S)·z·H2O.
