The recent 6th Assessment Report by Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change highlights the critical role that Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) can play in addressing climate change impacts. This study aims to explore the disparities in the involvement of researchers from the Global North and South in the monitoring and evaluation (M&E) of NDCs. A systematic review was conducted using literature from Web of Science, Dimensions, and ScienceDirect to assess existing studies. The findings revealed that most research on NDCs is primarily conducted by institutions in the Global North, with minimal participation from Southern researchers. Additionally, there is a striking lack of research focusing specifically on M&E of NDCs. The study underscores the necessity for equitable involvement of all countries in NDC projects and emphasizes the importance of inclusive research practices that amplify the voices and contributions of both the Global North and South. Given the complexities and challenges tied to implementing and evaluating NDCs, fostering collaboration and enhancing research capabilities in the Global South is imperative for effective climate action.
