Abstract

Language:

This experimental study investigates the leaching efficiencies of a sulphidic copper ore taken from Küre, Türkiye, with a composition of 7.95% Cu, 2.13% Pb, 0.341% Zn, 0.087% Co, 0.039% Ni, 0.9 g/t Au, and 17 g/t Ag. The objective is to compare the effects of ferric chloride and ferric sulphate leaching processes under varying conditions including leaching time, ferric ion concentration, solid-liquid ratio, acid concentration, and temperature. The methodology involved conducting experiments to establish optimum leaching conditions for both processes. Results indicate that under optimal conditions, ferric chloride leaching yielded 76% Cu, 54.9% Co, 100% Pb, and 91.37% Zn recoveries, whereas ferric sulphate leaching achieved 58.84% Cu, 56.8% Co, 97.2% Pb, and 78.46% Zn recoveries. The study concludes that ferric chloride leaching provided superior metal leaching recoveries compared to ferric sulphate, and also enabled the recovery of silver, which was not achievable in ferric sulphate leaching.
