Continuous casting is a critical process in steel production, yet defects such as cracking and oscillation marks hinder productivity. The objective of this study is to develop a reliable mathematical model that accounts for the interactions of various parameters affecting the formation and performance of slag layers during continuous casting. Methodologically, this model incorporates elements such as casting speed, oscillation characteristics, and mould flux properties. Through simulations, the study identifies the effects of these parameters on defect occurrence and proposes methods for remediation. The results indicate that the interactions can lead to trade-offs, where minimizing one defect may inadvertently create another. Therefore, the proposed modelling approach provides essential predictions for operational strategies in continuous casting processes. Ultimately, the findings enhance understanding of defect mechanisms and contribute to improving overall productivity in steel casting operations.
