This dissertation investigates the disinfection of healthcare waste (HCW) through alkaline hydrolysis, assessing both its efficiency and the emissions produced during the process. The primary objective is to evaluate the effectiveness of alkaline hydrolysis as a method for treating HCW, especially given the growing concerns surrounding waste management in healthcare facilities. The methodology involves a series of experimental tests that measure the disinfection efficacy, chemical reactions, and environmental impact of alkaline hydrolysis compared to traditional waste treatment methods. Results indicate a significant reduction in pathogens present in HCW, demonstrating that alkaline hydrolysis effectively sanitizes waste while producing lower emissions of harmful substances. Furthermore, the research highlights the advantages of using this method over incineration, especially in terms of regulatory compliance and sustainability. Overall, the findings suggest that alkaline hydrolysis is a viable solution for HCW management, contributing to more environmentally friendly practices in the healthcare sector.
