Abstract

Language:

Studies on early age autogenous deformations occurring in cementitious materials have indicated an important dispersion of the results function of the experimental device used for the measurement of this phenomenon. A large experimental campaign was performed on several water to cement ratio pastes and mortars, in order to understand the role of the choice of the experimental set up in the response given by the material. Several parameters and properties were measured, such as the degree of hydration of the materials, the chemical shrinkage, the Vicat set time and the autogenous deformations. A comparison is made between several autogenous shrinkage testing devices in order to asses to which extent the differences observed at early ages are due to a measurement artefact or to the intrinsic behaviour of the material within the well defined boundary conditions imposed by the moulds.
