Abstract

Language:

This study investigates the leaching of roasted copper sulfide ore, addressing the challenge of converting insoluble sulphide ores into a soluble form for improved extraction efficiency. The primary objective was to assess the extraction levels of copper after oxidizing-sulphatizing roasting of the ore. A systematic methodology was employed, including roasting the sulphide ore to form copper sulphate, which is soluble in the leaching medium. The pregnant liquor was analyzed to calculate the copper recovery percentages, and the copper content in the roasted calcines was also determined to evaluate the leaching process's efficiency. Results indicate that significant extraction of copper can be achieved under the right pretreatment conditions, highlighting the advantages of hydrometallurgy over traditional methods in processing low-grade ore. This research contributes to the development of efficient, cost-effective, and environmentally friendly processes for copper recovery, essential for addressing the depleting copper resources globally.
