This chapter provides a comprehensive overview of copper production technology, examining the historical context and improvements in methodologies throughout the years. The objective is to outline various processes involved in copper extraction and refining, including exploration, mining techniques, comminution, separation, and various metallurgical processes such as pyrometallurgy, hydrometallurgy, and electrometallurgy. The methodology includes a detailed analysis of operational flows and technological advancements in smelting and casting techniques, with a focus on continuous casting and rod rolling technologies. Results indicate that the implementation of continuous casting has significantly enhanced productivity in melting and casting operations, leading to improved surface quality and reduced reprocessing of batches that do not meet standards. Innovations such as automated quality testing and the use of advanced casting systems are highlighted as key contributors to these improvements. The chapter concludes by underscoring the importance of adopting state-of-the-art technology in copper production to optimize efficiency and maintain quality standards.
