In recent years, Chinese steel companies suffered a spate of blast furnace hearth incidents, such as hearth sidewall breakout and abnormal temperature increases, which have prompted a significant focus on long hearth service life technology. This paper analyzes the recent advancements in the design concepts for long service life of Chinese blast furnace hearths by examining various factors such as hearth structure design, selection of refractory materials, cooling system arrangements, and the establishment of online monitoring systems. Furthermore, it proposes future design enhancements aimed at improving the longevity of blast furnace hearths in China. Through a thorough review of these aspects, the study emphasizes the importance of innovative approaches in the design and operational parameters to mitigate issues commonly encountered in blast furnace operations. Ultimately, the findings aim to contribute to enhancing the performance and durability of blast furnaces in the contemporary metallurgical landscape.
