Leaching of Mixed Oxide/Sulfide Copper Ores and the Shrinking Core Model

Abstract

Language:

The results of column leaching tests on three different mixed oxide/sulfide ores from a Chilean deposit are presented. The samples included varying ratios of oxide copper minerals to chalcocite and chalcopyrite. The findings from the column leach tests are analyzed through the lens of the shrinking core model for coarse particle leaching. Both copper recoveries from the oxide and sulfide minerals align with the predictions of the shrinking core model, resulting in total recovery that corresponds to the weighted average of the individual minerals. Additionally, the paper discusses how column test findings can be applied to forecast real-world heap leaching outcomes utilizing the multi-mineral shrinking core model.
