Capacitor banks are commonly used to enhance the power factor of electrical systems; however, power factor adjustment may not always be necessary, as overcorrection can lead to equipment failure. This study describes a method for improving the power factor of induction motors through the application of a Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) to control a condenser. The methodology illustrates how energy savings are achieved by automatically adjusting the power factor of the induction motor. Power factor is a critical indicator of how much energy is retrieved from the power utility, and when it falls below one, additional current is needed to deliver the same amount of power, escalating line losses due to increased current. Induction motors are prevalent in industrial applications due to their cost-effectiveness, reliability, and durability, yet they often operate at a low power factor. This review discusses the challenges of maintaining an optimal power factor under varying loads and emphasizes the importance of achieving a power factor as close to unity as possible to avoid penalties from electrical suppliers. Thus, automatic power factor improvement methods are essential to enhance system stability and efficiency.
