This study investigates the acid leaching process of nickel-cadmium (Ni–Cd) batteries, focusing on the effect of electrode phase composition. The objective was to analyze how variations in the phase composition influence the efficiency of leaching, aiming to improve waste management practices for these batteries. A systematic methodology was employed, involving the collection of various electrode samples, followed by the application of acid leaching techniques under controlled laboratory conditions. The results indicated that different compositions of the electrode materials significantly impacted the leaching efficiency, with certain phase compositions yielding higher extraction rates of cadmium and nickel. This finding underscores the importance of optimizing electrode material compositions to enhance recovery processes, thereby contributing to more effective recycling protocols for spent Ni–Cd batteries. The implications of this research extend to environmental technology and waste management, as it proposes a scientifically grounded approach for mitigating the ecological impacts associated with the disposal of hazardous battery materials.
