Abstract

Language:

The study explores the application of the CO2 bottom-blowing method in the 120t LF (Ladle Furnace) refining process to improve metallurgical outcomes. The objective was to evaluate the effectiveness of CO2 over traditional argon methods in achieving inclusion removal and quality enhancement in molten steel. Utilizing both experimental setups and numerical modeling, various bottom-blowing rates and gas types were analyzed to determine their impact on metallurgical properties during the refining process. Results indicated that the CO2 method significantly influences the total inclusion removal rate and size distribution of inclusions, outperforming the argon method in certain conditions. Key findings include improved removal rates of non-metallic inclusions and favorable changes in chemical composition, such as carbon and sulfur levels, leading to enhanced steel quality. Additionally, operational parameters such as temperature variations and refining time were assessed, confirming the potential of CO2 as an effective agent in steel refining applications. This research provides valuable insights into optimizing refining processes using innovative methods, ultimately contributing to advancements in metallurgical engineering and carbon neutrality efforts in steel production.
