This study investigates the sorption characteristics of uranium, in the form of UO2 2+, onto composite ion exchangers comprised of polyacrylonitrile (PAN) composites with natural and synthetic zeolites. The objective is to evaluate the effectiveness of these composite materials in removing uranium from aqueous solutions. A detailed methodology was established, wherein the influences of parameters such as pH, U(VI) concentration, temperature, and contact time on the sorption behavior were systematically assessed. Batch techniques were employed to study the sorption behavior, and the optimum adsorption conditions for two composites were determined. The results indicated that the composite ion exchangers displayed improved sorption capacities compared to traditional methods, revealing significant insights into the adsorptive mechanisms and kinetics involved. Additionally, desorption parameters were explored to facilitate the recovery of the absorbed uranium, underscoring the potential of these materials in environmental applications related to radioactive waste management.
