Abstract

Language:

Roasting of refractory gold ores is a crucial commercial process utilized to treat various refractory gold ores and concentrates, aimed at altering the physical, chemical, and mineralogical properties of the ore constituents. This study examines the effectiveness of different roasting configurations, such as single- and two-stage fluid bed roasters, which process ores under varying conditions to optimize gold liberation and recovery. It focuses on the advantages of the two-stage roasting method, emphasizing energy efficiency and high gas conversions, particularly in producing a low-arsenic calcine that enhances subsequent cyanidation. By employing independent air supply for both stages, better control over the roasting environment is achieved, reducing the presence of cyanicides and facilitating greater gold recovery. The findings highlight the importance of adapting roasting parameters to ore characteristics and demonstrate that innovations in roasting technology can significantly impact gold extraction outcomes. This assessment serves as a reference for future developments in the field of gold processing and offers insights into how modifications in roasting mechanics can ameliorate the challenges faced by the industry.
