The surfactant aggregation transition concentration (atc) is the concentration associated with the transition from surfactant monomers to aggregates such as micelles in solution or from near monolayer to multilayer coverage on surfaces. This paper aims to provide a comprehensive comparison of various methods used to determine atc values including Electrochemical Quartz Crystal Microbalance (EQCM), surface tension measurements, and corrosion inhibition tests. The methodology involves using precise experimental techniques, including a platinum Wilhelmy plate for surface tension measurements and EQCM to detect mass changes due to surfactant adsorption. The results indicate that while atc values for solution and surface behaviors show similarities, they can differ due to surface energy effects related to interfacial adsorption. Furthermore, the study demonstrates that all tested methods are capable of accurately determining atc values under the right conditions. These findings emphasize the importance of choosing appropriate methods for specific experimental requirements in surfactant studies.
