Abstract

Language:

This thesis study is related to the extraction kinetics of nickel and cobalt from lateritic nickel ores from the Gördes/Manisa region of Turkey. The experimental studies involved the optimization of the extraction process using nitric acid as the leaching agent. Various parameters affecting the extraction efficiency were systematically investigated, and the results indicated significant variability in extraction rates depending on the operational conditions such as acid concentration, temperature, and reaction time. The kinetic analysis of the leaching process revealed that the dissolution of nickel and cobalt followed a pseudo-first-order reaction kinetics. Additionally, metal recovery data were collected, which demonstrated the potential for effective recovery of valuable metals from lateritic ores through this method. The findings of this research contribute to the understanding of the extraction mechanisms of nickel and cobalt, offering insights that can be leveraged for industrial applications in metallurgical processes. Future work could focus on the scaling of this technique and exploring alternative leaching agents to enhance recovery rates of these metals.
