This work investigates copper recovery in a citric acid medium from flotation tailings of Kingamyambo. The copper is first leached under optimized conditions: 120 minutes of leaching, 25 g/L acidity, 6 g of SMBS reductant, 15% solids, and a temperature of 60 °C, yielding 84% Cu and 46.7% Co extraction. The resulting pregnant leach solution (PLS), containing 4.58 g/L Cu, is then treated by solvent extraction using LIX 84-IC as extractant. The study focuses on optimizing the oxime concentration and the organic/aqueous ratio, selecting 20% oxime at a PLS pH of 1.6, which provides a copper extraction efficiency of 99.76%. Using the McCabe–Thiele diagram and the method of ratios, the optimal number of extraction stages is determined to be two, with an extraction ratio (O/A) of 1.2 to ensure phase continuity.
