Despite their high boron contents, some boron deposits in Turkey contain considerable amounts of arsenic, which penalizes marketing and necessitates its removal. This study aimed to determine the extent of arsenic removal during the decrepitation of colemanite ores with high arsenic content. The methodology involved investigating the effect of temperature, retention time, and particle size on the degree of arsenic removal and the quality of the colemanite concentrate. Results indicated that arsenic removals of 95-98% were achieved, resulting in arsenic levels as low as 0.02% in the colemanite concentrate, thereby significantly enhancing the quality of the product. These findings highlight the effectiveness of the decrepitation process as a method for arsenic removal from boron minerals, contributing to better marketing prospects and environmental safety in the management of boron deposits in Turkey.
