The increasing demand for solar grade silicon (SoG-Si) in the photovoltaic (PV) industry has led to significant silicon waste during production processes. This paper aims to analyze the various types of silicon wastes generated and assess the benefits of recycling these materials, focusing on financial values, energy efficiency, CO2 emissions, and energy payback time. A comprehensive review of available technologies for recycling and purifying SoG-Si wastes is presented, including methods such as filtration, sedimentation, solidification control, electromagnetic separation, and high-temperature melting. By examining the implications of silicon waste recycling, this study seeks to contribute to the sustainable development of the PV industry. The results indicate considerable potential for recycling technologies to mitigate energy consumption and reduce carbon emissions, addressing the environmental challenges associated with silicon production. Ultimately, the paper highlights the necessity of recycling silicon wastes to maintain resource efficiency and minimize environmental impact in the rapidly growing PV sector.
