Abstract

Language:

This document presents the design of a copper electrowinning circuit utilizing conventional cells, with the aim of optimizing the production process for copper extraction. The objective is to create a comprehensive framework that incorporates fundamental principles of electrowinning, equipment sizing, and material flow rates necessary for efficient operation. Methodologically, the study outlines a systematic approach to calculate key parameters such as production rate, cathode active area, design current density, and current efficiency. It also explores the necessary sizing for rectifiers and cathode stripping machines, alongside the arrangement of cathodes within the cells. Results from the calculations demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed design, highlighting the optimal number of cells and their arrangement, as well as the required equipment specifications to support high-efficiency copper production. The findings can serve as a guideline for engineers and practitioners involved in metallurgical processes and can lead to enhanced operational efficiency in copper electrowinning facilities.
