With a unique combination of strength and toughness among materials, spider silk serves as a model for engineering materials. This paper aims to present the stress-strain behavior of Nephila clavipes spider silk under various mechanical tests, including tension, transverse compression, and torsional deformation, conducted using advanced micro testing equipment. The results reveal that the spider silk exhibits significantly higher toughness compared to contemporary fibers in both tension and transverse compression scenarios, alongside a higher shear modulus when compared to liquid crystalline fibers like aramid fibers. Utilizing the experimental results, finite element analysis is employed to simulate both the static and dynamic properties of spider webs, further elucidating the importance of the material properties and architectural design on the structural integrity and mechanical performance of these natural fibers. This research showcases the potential applications of spider silk in engineering design due to its exceptional mechanical properties and contributes to the understanding of how architecture influences performance in tensegrity structures.
