Abstract

Language:

Copper and brass are utilized in numerous sectors including electrical, construction, and transportation, with applications ranging from household wiring to marine components. This research aims to compare the corrosion resistance of pure copper versus brass samples when immersed in a 3.5% NaCl solution. To achieve this, electrochemical methodologies such as open circuit potential and linear polarization resistance were employed to assess the corrosion behavior of both materials. The outcomes reveal that pure copper exhibits significantly enhanced corrosion resistance in the saline environment compared to brass. Such findings are crucial for determining the suitability of these metals in various construction applications, considering their propensity for corrosion in specific environmental conditions.
