Laboratory investigations have been conducted to examine the effects of key parameters on the leaching of metal values from ocean polymetallic nodules using acidified chloride solutions, simulating model seawater. This study focused on various leaching conditions, such as time, temperature, stirring rate, liquid/solid ratio, and hydrochloric acid (HCl) concentration, to evaluate their influence on leaching efficiency. The results demonstrated that an HCl concentration exceeding 4.0 M combined with a temperature of 30 oC significantly enhanced the leaching of valuable metals, leading to a near-complete extraction. Moreover, increasing the leaching temperature permitted the reduction of the initial acid concentration required for effective leaching. The behavior of the deep-sea nodules investigated in this research presented discrepancies compared to previously reported findings in the literature, indicating the necessity for tailored approaches in the extraction processes for these unique ocean resources.
