Worldwide BOF-based steel plants are faced with demanding environmental requests and rising energy costs. The objective of this study is to assess the operational results of cleaning technologies for primary gases from BOF through extensive field measurements at existing gas cleaning plants. The methodology includes benchmarking data from various BOF plants globally, focusing on the direct relationship between pressure loss and achievable clean gas dust content in wet scrubbers. The results indicate that the main energy consumers within gas cleaning plants are the driving fans, and advanced control strategies have been developed to optimize energy consumption while minimizing environmental impact. As a conclusion, the operational results highlight significant advances in cleaning technologies that have been implemented successfully, thus meeting contemporary environmental requirements efficiently. This contribution emphasizes the need for continuous improvements and adaptations of existing systems to comply with stringent regulations, showcasing practical measures for enhanced operational performance.
