This study investigates the corrosion behavior of the WE43 magnesium alloy, recognized for its potential as an orthopedic biomaterial, particularly due to its lightweight and biocompatible properties. The objective was to explore how magnetron sputtered coatings can enhance its corrosion resistance in physiological environments, which is critical for its application in biomedical fields. A series of experiments were conducted, including pretreatments and the application of various sputtered coatings, followed by electrochemical testing to assess corrosion rates. Results demonstrated that the coated WE43 alloy exhibited significantly reduced corrosion rates compared to uncoated samples, thereby enhancing its suitability for biomedical applications. This investigation not only provides insights into the protective capabilities of magnetron sputtered coatings on magnesium alloys but also highlights the importance of further optimizing these coatings for improved performance in practical scenarios.
