Abstract

Language:

The present paper provides information about the influence of particle size and synergism of collectors on the flotation of a very low grade auriferous sulphide ore. Mineralogical characterisation studies revealed that quartz constituted 65% of the sample, followed by pyrite (9%) and arsenopyrite (7.3%). The study examined the relationship between the flotation response of coarse gold-containing particles and reagent concentration. Results indicated that an increased collector concentration, specifically 60 g t⁻¹ of potassium amyl xanthate, significantly enhanced gold and sulphur recoveries at 85.3% and 56.64%, respectively. Conversely, smaller and intermediate-sized particles required lower collector concentrations for optimal recovery. The findings confirm that equivalent gold recoveries are possible for coarser particles, potentially decreasing grinding time and enabling a greater throughput of run of mine material, thus addressing the economic challenges faced by the mining operation.
