Zn coating electrodeposited on a mild steel substrate in an acid bath was investigated using cyclic voltammetric and chronopotentiometry techniques. The objective of this study was to examine the effect of current density on various parameters including deposition potential, thickness of the deposit, deposition rate, and current efficiency. Methodologically, the chemical composition and surface morphology of the Zn coatings were characterized using Energy Dispersive X-Ray (EDX) spectrometer and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM). Results indicated that the morphology of the film surface transitioned from dense and uniaxial to disperse and dendritic as the current density increased. Additionally, EDX analyses confirmed the presence of Zn and O in the deposit, highlighting the successful electrodeposition process. This research demonstrates the importance of current density in optimizing the deposition characteristics of Zn coatings on mild steel substrates.
