About 50% of metals used in Aerospace industries are Aluminium and Titanium alloys. Alloys such as Ti6Al4V, AL-7175, and AL-7075 are used extensively in space vehicles, aviation, and automotive industries for having enhanced mechanical properties like high strength to weight ratio, low thermal expansion, and better corrosion resistance. This literature survey aims to compare the properties of Aluminium and Titanium alloys, highlighting the critical importance of lightweight alloys that possess superior strength, ultimately meeting the demands of the aviation industry. Through a comprehensive analysis of existing studies, the investigation reveals that titanium alloys stand out due to their high specific strength and excellent corrosion resistance, making them more suitable for aerospace applications compared to aluminium alloys. Despite their higher costs, the potential benefits of titanium alloys in applications up to 400 degrees Celsius underscore their value in reducing component weight, which is crucial for efficiency in aerospace and automotive designs. The findings of this study support the continual exploration and utilization of these materials in sectors that prioritize performance and safety.
