This study examines the comparative analysis of hydropower and thermal energy generation, emphasizing their importance in providing reliable and low-cost electricity necessary for economic growth. The objective is to investigate the characteristics of different power plants, focusing on the energy conversion processes involved in hydropower and thermal power plants. A theoretical investigation is conducted to compare the efficiency, environmental impacts, and operational requirements of hydroelectric and fossil fuel-based power plants. The findings reveal that while thermal energy generation constitutes around 80% of the world's electricity production, it is associated with significant environmental issues such as air pollution and non-renewable resource depletion. In contrast, hydropower is identified as a cleaner alternative with lower maintenance costs and the ability to generate energy sustainably. The results highlight the need for increased investment in hydropower infrastructure, considering its advantages despite the higher initial costs. This research contributes to understanding the critical role of various energy sources in the global energy landscape, suggesting that a balanced approach to energy production could lead to more sustainable energy solutions in the future.
