Turkish celestite ore was roasted in a lab scale rotary kiln furnace with metallurgical coke. The objective was to investigate the effects of various parameters on the roasting process. Methodology included mixing coke and celestite, with a product containing 32% coke, and feeding 100 g of the mixture at 35 g/min into the rotary furnace. Parameters such as temperature (1000 and 1100 °C), rotation speed (2.5, 5 and 10 rpm), and slope of the furnace (2, 3 and 5°) were examined. Phase and chemical analyses of the roasted products were performed using XRD and XRF techniques. Results indicated that the maximum solubility of the roasted product in water reached 48% under the specified conditions of 1100 °C, 2.5 rpm, and 2° slope. This study provides insights into optimizing the roasting conditions for enhanced solubility and utilization of strontium from celestite ore.
