In the rapidly growing manufacturing sector, the economizing of processes is viewed as an essential area for cost efficiency. Heavy metals such as copper, cadmium, and nickel need to be removed from wastewater, while precious metals like gold, platinum, and silver are utilized in electronic industries, notably in mobile phones and computers. Electronic waste, jewelry waste, and catalyst industry waste contain significant amounts of platinum, making its removal and recovery crucial from both ecological and economic perspectives. This review paper summarizes current research and studies focusing on the recovery of platinum from both liquid and solid waste. The methodologies evaluated include various adsorption techniques, chemical treatments, and biological processes, illustrating the necessity of recovering these metals, particularly when considering their precious nature. Additionally, findings align with the increasing awareness and implementation of effective recovery methods, underlining the importance of developing innovative solutions for platinum recovery from diverse waste sources.
