Abstract

Language:

This paper describes a very fast method of calculating the power factor (p.f.) for a power line. The objective of this study is to simplify the traditional measurement processes by requiring only two progressive samples of the current and voltage for the power factor calculation. The methodology involves the use of a phase locked loop (PLL) frequency multiplier scheme which allows for accurate measurements despite fluctuations in the power line frequency. The results indicate that this approach minimizes the number of samples needed, achieving effective measurements during a shorter time frame compared to existing methods that require longer cycles. The validation of this technique demonstrates its efficiency and applicability in practical scenarios for enhancing the speed of power factor computation in electrical systems.
